The Hatim Alavi Memorial Braille Library
“The Hatim Alavi Memorial Braille Library” was a gift to Ida Rieu by the family of Mr. Hatim Alavi (Late) who was associated with this Institution for over 50 years in various capacities. Mr. Alavi (Late) was the President of Ida Rieu when he expired in January 1976. To perpetuate his memory, the family gifted this library in 1977 on the 1st death anniversary of Mr.Hatim Alavi (Late).
It boasts of being Pakistan’s first and largest Braille and Talking Books Library in the country. It gained national status with the opening of its branches in various cities of the country, such as: Multan, Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Peshawar, Sialkot, Abbotabad, Sargodha and soon in Azad Kashmir.
With over 7000 books in Braille & Talking Books on a variety of academic and social subjects, it not only caters to the blind students of the Institution, but, also provides opportunity to visiting visually impaired persons to benefit from it. In order to provide door-to-door service, it has also for the first time in Pakistan started a mobile library. This mobile library visits different areas of the city on every Sunday to cater to those people who are unable to commute to the Institution for various reasons. The mobile was donated by CBM, Germany.
The Audio Visual Library
'The Audio Visual Library' caters to the Deaf students of the Institution. Apart from books, it is equipped with Audio Visual Cassettes, DVD player and a television. This library was donated through the courtesy of Karachi Garden Leo Club and is housed in the new Shirin Keshani School block for deaf.
